Complete List: 161 overseas female cricketers nominated for WBBL10

The landmark 10th edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) is set to run from the 27th of October to the 1st of December 2024. As teams finalize their squads through pre-season signings and contract extensions, the upcoming overseas players draft on September 1 will significantly shape the teams. The league has now unveiled the full list of nominations, with a total of 161 players putting their names forward.

Players are categorized into Platinum ($110k), Gold ($90k), Silver ($65k), and Bronze (up to $40k), with availability ranging from full season, including finals, to partial availability for 6-9 or 4-6 games.

England leads the draft nominations with 45 players entering the pool, followed by India with 20. Other notable entries include New Zealand and South Africa with 15 each, Pakistan with 11, Zimbabwe with 7, and Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates with 6 each. The West Indies and Ireland have 5 players each, while Hong Kong, Scotland, and Thailand each have 4. Vanuatu has 3 nominations, followed by the Netherlands, Japan, and Papua New Guinea with 2 each. There is one nomination each from the United States of America, Namibia, South Korea, Canada, and Bangladesh.

England’s leading players, including Heather Knight, Kate Cross, Georgia Adams, Danni Wyatt, Sophia Dunkley, Sophie Ecclestone, Alice Capsey, and Amy Jones, have all entered the WBBL 10 draft. Among the 45 English nominees are also several promising up-and-coming talents, such as Paige Scholfield, Ryana Macdonald-Gay, Sophia Smale, Seren Smale, Issy Wong, Hollie Armitage, and Grace Scrivens.

Indonesia’s nominees include leading run-scorer Ni Putu Ayu Nanda Sakarini, top wicket-taker Ni Made Putri Suwandewi, and emerging talents Ni Luh Ketut Wesika Ratna Dewi, Lie Qiao, Kadek Winda Prastini, and Maria Corazon Konjep Wombaki.

The United Arab Emirates’ leading run-scorers, skipper Esha Oza, Theertha Satish, and Kavisha Egodage, as well as top wicket-takers Vaishnavi Mahesh and Samaira Dharnidharka, and emerging bowling all-rounder Heena Hotchandani, have filed their nominations. Esha Oza, with over 2,000 runs and 50 wickets, stands out as a notable player in women’s T20I.

West Indies’ nominations feature Deandra Dottin, Afy Fletcher, Chinelle Henry, Shakera Selman, and Shamilia Connell. For Ireland, star all-rounders Orla Prendergast and Laura Delany, along with established opener Amy Hunter, Gaby Lewis, and leading bowling all-rounder Arlene Kelly, have entered the draft.

Hong Kong’s Kary Chan, who has accumulated over 1,000 runs and 82 wickets from 64 T20Is, leads their nominations. She is joined by emerging pacer Iqra Sahar and all-rounder Maryam Bibi. Scotland’s nominations include the Bryce sisters – Kathryn, an all-rounder, and Sarah, a keeper-batter – alongside leg-spinner Abtaha Maqsood and Darcey Carter, all of whom have experience in England’s premier domestic competitions.

Thailand’s nominations include premier keeper-batter Nannapat Koncharoenkai, leg-spinner Suleeporn Laomi, and bowling all-rounders Thipatcha Putthawong and Onnicha Kamchomphu. Vanuatu’s rapidly rising star all-rounders – Nasimana Navaika, Rachel Andrew, and Selina Solman – are also among the 161 overseas players in the WBBL draft.

The Netherlands’ leading batters, Sterre Kalis, who has also featured in England’s The Hundred, and keeper-batter Babette de Leede, have entered the draft with full season availability. From Papua New Guinea, Henao Jean Thomas and Lakshmi Rajadurai have nominated. Japan’s leading run-scorer Erika Oda and emerging leg-spinner Erika Toguchi-Quinn are also part of the draft.

Canada’s Danielle McGahey, South Korea’s Seri Chang, Namibia’s Yasmeen Khan, Bangladesh’s Jahanara Alam, and the USA’s Tara Norris round out the list of 161 nominees. Tara Norris has seen success across various premier competitions globally, including England’s domestic games, while Jahanara Alam, a seasoned pacer, has over 100 international wickets.

Clubs will take turns selecting from the available players in a four-round draft. They must pick at least two overseas players, with one pick allocated to a pre-draft overseas signing corresponding to their contract’s salary band. Of up to four picks, one will be an overseas replacement player, as only three international players are allowed on a club’s primary 18-player list at any time during the tournament.

The draft will be broadcast live on The Seven Network, 7plus, Fox Sports, and Kayo Sports, starting at 3 p.m. AEST.
