Everything to know about the Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament 2025 -Squads, Schedule, Live Streaming

As the first ball is set to be bowled in Kigali, the Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament 2025 stands as much more than a celebration of cricketing prowess, it’s a deeply significant commemoration of resilience, unity, and hope. Since its inception in 2014 as a tribute to the victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, the Kwibuka Cup has become a cornerstone event, blending the power of sport with a poignant message of remembrance and peace.

From its modest beginnings as a bilateral contest between Rwanda and Uganda, the tournament has blossomed into a vibrant, internationally recognised competition that now welcomes nine diverse teams: Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Brazil, Malawi, and Zimbabwe A. The 2025 edition is set to showcase a dynamic mix of established cricketing talent and inspirational newcomers, reflecting the rapid growth of women’s cricket, not just across Africa, but reaching as far as South America.

Past editions have been rich in drama, records, and milestones. From Mali’s record-breaking low totals to Uganda’s world-record score (314/2) against Mali, and from Tanzania’s triumphant debut to Rwanda’s emotional home win in 2023, the Kwibuka T20 has continually made history while fostering new rivalries and friendships. Uganda’s narrow victory over Zimbabwe A in the 2024 final only added to the tournament’s legacy of close contests and passionate play.

Format:

The tournament will be played in the single round-robin format, which means that each team will face the other participating teams in the competition once. The top four teams at the end of the league stages will progress to the semi-finals, scheduled on 13th June 2025. The winners will progress to the final on 14th June, while the losing team will face each other in the third-place playoff.
