Elyse Villani’s Fairy-Tale WBBL Farewell
Elyse Villani, 37, announced her retirement last year after a fairy-tale finish, when her team, Hobart Hurricanes, lifted their maiden title in the Women’s Big Bash League 2025. She led her side to an eight-wicket victory over Perth Scorchers in the WBBL|11 final at Bellerive Oval. She played in every season of the Women’s Big Bash League since its start in 2015 and went on to captain three different franchises. Following her retirement, Nicola Carey took over the reins of Hobart Hurricanes.
Nicola Carey Played for Hobart Hurricanes Hours After Louis Was Born
4 November 2026 became a special day for Elyse Villani and Nicola Carey, who welcomed their son, Louis James Villani-Carey. The same day, Nicola Carey left the hospital and arrived at Ninja Stadium to play one of her best knocks for the Hurricanes.
Batting first, she scored 62 off 43 balls and helped Hobart Hurricanes post 154/7. She then picked up two wickets for just 30 runs against Melbourne Renegades. Her side could not cross the line, with the Renegades winning the match by four wickets off the last ball, but Nicola Carey lived the day to the fullest. From Teammates to Parents
The couple shared the news of their pregnancy earlier this year, in May 2026. Although there has been no formal announcement of a wedding, they have been long-term partners and have made several public appearances together.
