Sultana Khatun has come out as a dependable spin option for Bangladesh in white-ball cricket through disciplined bowling, tight control, and the ability to deliver in pressure situations. A right-arm off-spinner, she earned her maiden international call-up in 2023 for Bangladesh’s tour of Sri Lanka before making both her ODI and T20I debuts during the series.

Her rise came through strong domestic performances, which also earned her selection for Bangladesh A at the inaugural ACC Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup in 2023, where Bangladesh finished runners-up. Later that year, she was part of Bangladesh’s bronze medal-winning squad at the Asian Games before being selected for the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup squad.

Though relatively new at the international level compared to Bangladesh’s senior core, Sultana has quickly established herself as an effective middle-overs bowler capable of maintaining pressure through accuracy and subtle variations in pace. Her control has made her a useful option on slower surfaces and in low-scoring contests.

One of her standout performances came against India in the 2023 T20I series in Mirpur, where she produced career-best figures of 3 for 21 and played a major role in restricting India to just 95 for 8 — India’s then-lowest T20I total against Bangladesh. During that spell, she dismissed Shafali Verma, Harmanpreet Kaur and Harleen Deol.

In T20Is, Sultana has taken 18 wickets in 20 matches at an average of 24.44 and an economy rate of 6.78, with best figures of 3 for 8. In WODIs, she has claimed 21 wickets in 19 matches at an economy of just 4.03, highlighting her control across formats. She has also contributed useful lower order runs and remained an active part of Bangladesh’s spin rotation recently.

Sultana’s value for Bangladesh at the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup could come through her ability to control the middle overs and support Bangladesh’s experienced spin attack alongside bowlers like Nahida Akter and Rabeya Khan. On slower English surfaces, her accuracy, disciplined lines and ability to force mistakes could make her an important containment bowler against aggressive batting line-ups.
