Mega Market Mountaineers Women produced a resilient all-round performance to secure a 27-run victory over Tuskers Women in the Zimbabwe Women’s T20 Cup 2026 at Bulawayo Athletic Club on August 24, 2026. The contest went through several twists, with the Mountaineers recovering from a difficult start before posting a competitive score, while Tuskers Women struggled early in the chase and never quite recovered despite a determined fightback in the middle overs. The victory was shaped by an explosive 70 from Nyasha Gwanzura and an important 89-run partnership between Gracious Nsingo and Tasmeen Granger, followed by an excellent bowling display led by Kudzai Chigora and Nyasha herself.
Mega Market Mountaineers Women were put under early pressure after losing Chipo Mugeri Tiripano for five from six balls. She was trapped lbw by Philontropic Shango in the 1.3rd over, leaving the Mountaineers at 10/1. Nyasha Gwanzura, however, immediately changed the tempo of the innings. She launched an aggressive counterattack and found the boundary with remarkable regularity, eventually producing the standout innings of the match. Gwanzura smashed 70 from just 38 deliveries, striking eight fours and four sixes at an extraordinary strike rate of 184.21. She initially combined with Cathrine Chitombo, who scored two from nine balls, as the pair helped move the score from 10 to 39 before Chitombo was caught by Nomvelo Sibanda off Lindokuhle Mabhera in the 4.4th over.
Pelagia Mujaji then joined Gwanzura and helped stabilise the innings. Mujaji contributed 10 from 24 balls, but her stay ended when she was caught by Thubelihle Saidi off Loryn Phiri at 82/3 in the 11.1st over. The Mountaineers briefly lost momentum again as Passionate Munorwei was dismissed for four from just two deliveries, caught by Chiedza Dhururu off Loryn Phiri at 92/4. Audrey Mazvishaya responded with a brisk 19 from 15 balls, including four fours, but she was trapped lbw by Loryn Phiri at 94/5. Precious Dzvifu then fell for a six-ball duck, caught by Lindokuhle Mabhera off Tendai Makusha, leaving Mega Market Mountaineers Women in trouble at 94/6.
Kudzai Chigora provided a useful late contribution with 13 from 10 balls, including a six, before she was bowled by Thubelihle Saidi at 128/7. Tawana Matandauri and Monique Mushanyu were unable to add to the total, falling for ducks, with Matandauri caught and bowled by Tendai Makusha and Mushanyu bowled by Lindokuhle Mabhera. Shanel Machado remained unbeaten on seven from eight balls, while the Mountaineers eventually reached 150/10 in 19.4 overs. The innings was given a significant boost by 20 extras, including 15 wides, two byes, two leg-byes and a no-ball. Despite losing wickets regularly, the Mountaineers had done enough to establish a defendable target.
Tuskers Women’s bowling attack had several strong moments. Loryn Phiri was the leading wicket-taker with an excellent 3/30 from four overs, while Tendai Makusha claimed 2/29 in her three overs. Lindokuhle Mabhera was particularly economical, returning 2/9 from two overs. Philontropic Shango took 1/16 from two overs, while Thubelihle Saidi picked up 1/8 from 1.4 overs. Nomvelo Sibanda finished with 1/19 from three overs, and Gracious Nsingo conceded 22 runs from her three overs without taking a wicket. Tasmeen Granger bowled one over for 14 runs. Despite those contributions, Gwanzura’s attacking 70 had given the Mountaineers enough momentum to post 150.
Tuskers Women’s chase began disastrously. Lindrose Masina was dismissed for one from four balls, caught by Nyasha Gwanzura off Kudzai Chigora in the opening over, and Loryn Phiri followed for a duck just a few deliveries later. Chiedza Dhururu also fell cheaply, scoring one from three balls before being bowled by Nyasha Gwanzura at 4/2. Thubelihle Saidi was unable to settle either, departing for a five-ball duck after being caught by Tawana Matandauri off Gwanzura at 9/3. With the top order gone cheaply, Gracious Nsingo and Tasmeen Granger produced the partnership Tuskers desperately needed. The pair added a substantial 89 runs for the sixth wicket, dragging their team from 16/5 to 105/6 and briefly bringing the match back to life. Nsingo played the supporting role, making 28 from 47 balls with two fours, while Granger provided the aggression with a superb 55 from 43 deliveries, hitting eight fours. Their partnership gave Tuskers Women hope of completing a remarkable recovery, but the Mountaineers regained control when Nsingo was run out at 105/6 in the 17.1st over.
Tasmeen Granger continued fighting after losing her partner, but her innings ended at 113/7 when Kudzai Chigora bowled her for 55 in the 18.1st over. Tendai Makusha added a quick five from three balls before being bowled by Passionate Munorwei at 122/9 in the 19.4th over. Perceviarance Mpofu was dismissed for a four-ball duck at 114/8, while Lindokuhle Mabhera made two from four balls before falling to Passionate Munorwei at 123/10. Philontropic Shango remained unbeaten on one as Tuskers Women were bowled out for 123 in 20 overs, falling 27 runs short of the Mountaineers’ target.
Kudzai Chigora was the star of the Mega Market Mountaineers Women bowling attack, finishing with outstanding figures of 4/23 from four overs, including six wides. Nyasha Gwanzura complemented her batting heroics with an impressive 3/17 from four overs, while Passionate Munorwei claimed 2/22 from her four overs. Shanel Machado completed four overs for 27 runs without a wicket, and Tawana Matandauri bowled her full quota for 29 runs without a wicket. The Mountaineers’ bowlers maintained pressure at crucial stages, particularly after the early collapse, and ensured that the late resistance from Gracious Nsingo and Tasmeen Granger could not carry Tuskers over the line.
