Nepal succumbs to spin before openers Gull Feroza and Muneeba Ali seal a thrashing 9-wicket victory to give Pakistan their first victory of the Asia Cup 2024

The Indian team led by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur completed a thrashing 78-run victory against the United Arab Emirates in the 5th match of the tournament.

The Nepal women’s team led by skipper Indu Barma was all set to face Pakistan led by skipper Nida Dar in the 6th match of the tournament. Pakistan skipper Nida Dar won the toss and opted to field first. Omaima Sohail replaced Iram Javed for Pakistan in the playing 11. Roma Thapa replaced Shabnam Rai in the playing 11 for Nepal.

After being inserted to bat first, Nepal got off to a poor start as they lost the wicket of their opening batter Samjhana Khadka in the first over of the innings. She was awarded the Player of the Match in Nepal’s historic maiden victory in the ACC Women’s Asia Cup. Fatima Sana provided the first breakthrough for Pakistan. Kabita Kunwar joined Sita Rana Magar at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 26-run partnership for the 2nd wicket to lead some sort of recovery for Nepal.

Sadia Iqbal struck twice in the 5th over of the innings, pushing Nepal on the back foot in the powerplay. Rubina Chhetry joined the opening batter, Sita Rana Magar at the crease but the duo failed to form a substantial partnership as Rubina Chhetry was found short of her crease to provide the 4th breakthrough for Pakistan.

Puja Mahato joined Sita Rana Magar at the crease and the duo stitched a crucial 25-run partnership for the 5th wicket to take their side past the 50-run mark. Sita Rana Magar was found short of her crease to provide the 5th breakthrough for Pakistan. Kabita Joshi joined Puja Mahato at the crease and the duo stitched another crucial 34-run partnership to take their side on the verge of the three-figure mark.

Puja Mahato was found short of her crease to provide the 6th breakthrough for Pakistan. Nepal ended up with a total of 108/6 in their quota of overs. Kabita Joshi (31 off 23 balls), Sita Rana Magar (26 off 30 balls), and Puja Mahato (25 off 32 balls) were the top performers with the bat for Nepal.

Saida Iqbal (4-0-19-2), Nashra Sandhu (4-0-14-0), and Fatima Sana (4-0-24-1) were the top performers with the ball for Pakistan. Chasing a target of 109, the Pakistan openers Gull Feroza and Muneeba Ali cruised through the run chase scoring over nine runs an over. Kabita Joshi picked up the wicket of Gull Feroza to break the 105-run opening stand, providing the first breakthrough for Nepal. Gull Feroza completed her maiden T20I half-century before getting dismissed on the cusp of victory.

Tuba Hassan was promoted to number three as she joined Muneeba Ali and the duo took their side over the line. Pakistan sealed a thrashing 9-wicket victory with 49 balls to spare. Gull Feroza (57 off 35 balls), and wicket-keeper batter Muneeba Ali (46 off 34 balls) were the top performers with the bat for Pakistan. Kabita Joshi (1.5-0-19-1), and Rubina Chettry (2-0-13-0) were the top performers with the ball for Nepal.

Gull Feroza was awarded the Player of the Match for her brilliant match-winning performance (57 off 35 balls) with the bat. She notched up her maiden T20I half-century which played a crucial role in helping Pakistan register their first victory of the Asia Cup 2024.
