Historical Highlights – Luxembourg Women’s National Cricket Team
Luxembourg’s affiliation with international cricket began when the Luxembourg Cricket Federation joined as an affiliate member of the ICC in 1998, later attaining associate membership in 2017.
In April 2018, the ICC’s decision to grant full Women’s Twenty20 International (WT20I) status to all its members opened new avenues for Luxembourg women’s cricket. Since then, all Twenty20 matches involving Luxembourg women and other ICC members have held the prestigious WT20I status.
Luxembourg women’s team ventured into international cricket in September 2021, marking their debut with a friendly match against Belgium. Despite a valiant effort, they narrowly lost by 27 runs.
Their maiden official WT20I match came against Serbia on 5 September 2023, during the 2023 Greece women’s quadrangular series.
Luxembourg is committed to nurturing talent and promoting women’s cricket through various development initiatives. They established the Women’s Academy Games and training programs, facilitated by the Star Cricket Academy and supported by EasyHealth and the Schuttrange commune, providing invaluable opportunities for women to engage in cricket both indoors and outdoors. They also possess a junior program that offers a platform for girls to participate in games and training sessions to foster their skills and passion for the sport from a young age.
