A fiery right-arm medium-fast bowler who has brought pace, aggression, and fresh energy to the national team. Marufa’s story is one of humble beginnings, relentless determination, and a rise that has made her one of the most exciting young fast bowlers in world cricket.

Hailing from Saidpur, a small town in Nilphamari, Marufa grew up in a modest family where her father worked as a farmer. It was her older brother who encouraged her to pursue cricket, igniting a passion that soon turned into a dream. Inspired by her favorite cricketer, Hardik Pandya, she worked tirelessly to hone her skills.

Marufa Akter’s International Career

Marufa’s breakthrough came in November 2022, when she received her maiden call-up to the Bangladesh squad for the ODI and T20I series against New Zealand. She stepped into the senior spotlight at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, picking up 4 wickets, with her best being 3/23 against Sri Lanka, a performance that announced her as a genuine strike bowler for Bangladesh.

One of Marufa’s most memorable moments came on 16 July 2023, in the first ODI against India. Bowling with discipline and aggression, she picked up 4 wickets for 29 runs in 7 overs, steering Bangladesh to their first-ever ODI win against India by 40 runs. Her match-winning spell earned her the Player of the Match award and etched her name into Bangladesh cricket history.

Marufa’s stellar performances continued to turn heads. In January 2024, her heroics against India earned her a nomination for the ESPNcricinfo Awards 2023 (Women’s ODI Bowling), which she went on to win in February 2024, a proud moment not just for her, but for Bangladesh women’s cricket.
