“So close, yet so far.”- This has been Delhi Capitals’ story in the WPL so far, with two runner up finishes.
Despite their brilliant performances, they have narrowly missed out on claiming the trophy in both seasons. In the inaugural season, they lost to Mumbai Indians, and it was Royal Challengers Bengaluru who defeated them in the 2024 season. These defeats have left them hungry for success and they will be eager to go one step further in the third WPL edition.

Ahead of the 2025 WPL season, Delhi Capitals have kicked off their preparations with an intense week-long pre-season camp in Pune. The decision to choose Pune as their training venue came due to the lack of proper training grounds in Vadodara, which will host WPL matches for the first time. Pune’s weather is similar to that of Vadodara, which will help the foreign players to adapt to the climate.
Delhi Capitals took to their social media handles to share glimpses of their training session, captioning it “Jiska sabko intezaar thha, our first training.” (The moment everyone was waiting for, our first training).
The post features India’s explosive opener Shafali Verma, middle-order maestro Jemimah Rodrigues, wicketkeeper Taniya Bhatia, spin specialist Radha Yadav, South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp and Scotland’s wicketkeeper-batter Sarah Bryce. The players are rigorously gearing up under the guidance of the Head Coach Jonathan Batty.
Delhi Capitals made calculated decisions during the auction to strengthen their squad. They released four players: Laura Harris, Poonam Yadav, Ashwani Kumari, and Aparna Mondal. With a remaining purse of ₹1.73 crore, they acquired four promising talents for ₹85 lakhs, which included Scottish wicketkeeper Sarah Bryce alongside young Indian talents Nandini Kashyap, N. Chiarini, and Niki Prasad, who captained the winning side in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia.
The team maintained a strong core, retaining the legendary captain, Meg Lanning, promising batters like Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues, and overseas all-rounders such as Annabel Sutherland and Marizanne Kapp.
Delhi Capitals will begin their 2025 WPL campaign on 15th February, facing Mumbai Indians at the Baroda Cricket Association Stadium in Vadodara, after the tournament’s first match between the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Giants.
The team is determined to overcome past disappointments and clinch their maiden title, bringing their best performance to the 2025 season.
