Deepti Sharma – 1st Indian with 1000 Runs & 100 Wickets in T20Is

Deepti Sharma becomes the 1st Indian woman to score 1000 runs and take 100 wickets in the T20I format.

The 26-year-old star Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma has been a sensational contributor for the women in blue, especially in the white ball format, ever since making her international debut on 28th November 2014, in an ODI against South Africa.

She played a pivotal role in India’s recent historic success at home against England and Australia in the red-ball format. Her best performance in the T20I series against England came in the 2nd T20I when she returned with match figures (2/4) in her two-over spell. Coming into the one-off Test match against England at the DY Patil Stadium, she played a pivotal part in helping India seal a memorable 347-run victory, a historic occasion for the home side as they managed to clinch their maiden victory over England at home in the red-ball format.

She scored a crucial half-century (67 off 113 balls) with the bat in the first innings, helping India surpass the 400-run mark. Apart from her exploits with the bat, she also picked up a five-wicket haul with the ball as she returned with exceptional figures (5.3-4-7-5) dismantling England’s batting lineup. She also went on to pick up a four-wicket haul in the 2nd innings defending a total of 479 and was awarded the Player of the Match for her all-round contributions (87 runs) with the bat and (9 wickets) with the ball.

She also played a crucial role in the one-off Test match against Australia, picking up two wickets with the ball in the first inning, and scoring crucial runs (78 off 171 balls) with the bat in the 1st innings helping India get past the 400-run mark. In the ODI series, Deepti Sharma was the joint-highest wicket-taker of the series and the highest wicket-taker for India with 7 wickets to her name in three innings. Her best performance in the ODI series came in the 2nd ODI when she returned with match figures (5/38) in her spell.

She was also the joint-highest wicket-taker of the T20I series with 5 wickets in three innings at a strike rate of 14.40 and an average of 15.60 in three innings. Her best performance came in the 2nd T20I when she returned with match figures (2/22). She completed a rare feat in the 2nd T20I when she scored 30 runs with the bat and picked up two wickets with the ball, she became the 1st Indian Woman cricketer to score 1000+ runs with the bat and pick 100 wickets with the ball in the T20I format.
