Mignon du Preez is having an eventful outing against Australia at Wellington. First, Ashleigh Gardener took a sensational one-handed catch at deep mid-wicket to dismiss her while batting. Then, du Preez herself took a jaw-dropping catch at the same deep mid-wicket position to dismiss the Australian opener Rachael Haynes for 17.

South Africa put up a good score of 271 on the board thanks to a magnificent 90 from Laura Wolvaardt a valuable 52 from Sune Luus and a quick 43 runs partnership between Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon in the last 4 overs.

Australia came out to chase the tough target and lost Alyssa Healy in the 3rd over. Rachael Haynes and Meg Lanning were looking to have a good partnership. Rachael Haynes batting on 17 of 28 balls tried to increase her strike rate by going for a big shot over the deep mid-wicket region against South African fast bowler Shabnim Ismail. Mignon du Preez who was in the deep mid-wicket position ran to her left and jumped high in the air and caught a screamer thus dismissing Haynes for 17 putting Australia under pressure at 45 for 2.

Australia came back strong thanks to the wonderful hundred by Meg Lanning as she carried Australia to the finishing line and won the match by 5 wickets. South Africa bowling didn’t threaten the Australian women. Premium Speedsters Marizanne Kapp and Ayabonga Khaka went wicketless. Whereas, Shabnim Ismail just took 2 wickets. The spinners too didn’t have much impact resulting in Australia chasing the target with ease.

Mignon du Preez who recently completed 150 ODIs for South Africa, has been having a horrible world cup so far as she hasn’t scored enough runs with the bat. With 2 more games left, the Proteas side will be hoping for her to score some runs in the last 2 games.
