Sydney Sixers led by skipper Ellyse Perry were up against Adelaide Strikers led by skipper Tahlia McGrath in the 5th match of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 10 at the North Sydney Oval, Sydney.
Sydney Sixers won the toss and opted to field first. After being inserted to bat first, the defending champions, Adelaide Strikers, got off to a horrible start as they lost their top-order inside the first seven overs of the innings.
Orla Prendergast joined wicket-keeper batter Bridget Patterson at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 54-run partnership for the 5th wicket to take their side past the 100-run mark. Courtney Grace Sippel picked up the wicket of wicket-keeper batter Bridget Patterson to provide the 5th breakthrough for Sydney Sixers. Amanda-Jade Wellington joined Orla Prendergast at the crease and the duo stitched another crucial 38-run partnership to take their side closer to the 150-run mark. Ashleigh Gardner picked up the wicket of Orla Prendergast to provide the 6th breakthrough for her side.
Adelaide Strikers were eventually bundled out for 171 in their quota of 20 overs. Wicket-keeper batter Bridget Patterson (44 off 32 balls), Amanda-Jade Wellington (40 off 16 balls), and Orla Prendergast (39 off 31 balls) were the top performers with the bat for the Adelaide Strikers. Chasing a target of 172, Sydney Sixers got off to a poor start as they lost the wicket of their opening batter Hollie Armitage in the 2nd over of the run chase. Darcie Brown provided the first breakthrough for Adelaide Strikers. Wicket-keeper batter Sarah Bryce joined skipper Ellyse Perry at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 80-run partnership for the 2nd wicket to take their side closer to the 100-run mark.
Darcie Brown returned and picked up the big wicket of the opposition skipper Ellyse Perry to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side. Ashleigh Gardner soon followed her back to the pavilion to provide the 3rd breakthrough for the Strikers. Elsa Hunter joined the wicket-keeper batter Sarah Bryce at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 53-run partnership for the 4th wicket to take their side close to the 150-run mark.
Megan Schutt cleaned up wicket-keeper batter Sarah Bryce to provide the much-needed breakthrough for her side. Sydney Sixers were eventually restricted to 160/9 in their quota of overs, as a result, falling short of the target by 11 runs. Wicket-keeper batter S Bryce (62 off 44 balls), skipper Ellyse Perry (54 off 28 balls), and Elsa Hunter (28 off 22 balls) were the top performers with the bat for Sydney Sixers.
Anesu Mushangwe (4-0-27-3), Darcie Brown (4-1-25-2), Megan Schutt (4-0-28-2), and Amanda-Jade Wellington (4-0-36-2) were the top performers with the ball for the Adelaide Strikers. Amanda-Jade Wellington was awarded the Player of the Match for her brilliant all-rounder performances (40 off 16 balls) with the bat and (4-0-36-2) with the ball for her side.
