Jharkhand’s Nidhi Buley takes 5 wickets that go in a losing cause as Maharashtra win by 2 runs – Round II Super League
Maharashtra edged over Jharkhand in what was a close match at Mulapadu. There was little difference between the two sides who played the 2nd round matches of the Super League at Chukkapalli Pitchaiah Cricket Ground, Mulapadu.
Maharashtra elected to bat first but had a tricky start. They lost both the openers within 3 overs when the score was only 5. Captain Mukta Magre 17(25) and Anagha Deshpande 21(25) contributed valuable runs to the team’s score. Both fell to Jharkhand’s Nidhi Buley who was exceptional with the ball. Priyanka Garkhede also made 21 runs facing 22 balls. Maharashtra were bowled out making 81 runs in 19 overs courtesy Buley. Nidhi Buley took 5 wickets and gave only 8 runs in her 4-over spell. Her 5-wicket haul was a special one. It’s rare to see a 5-wicket haul in T20s and rarer to see such an economical one.
Jharkhand openers did not give the team a good start as both fell in the same over when the scoreline read 6/2. Ruma Mahato 15(31) and Rashmi Gudhia 13(21) had a brief stay in the middle. Captain Niharika Prasad was out on a duck by Priyanka Garkhede who also took Gudhia’s wicket. Indrani Roy made 27 runs in 32 balls to bring her team close to the total. But it was the margin of 2 runs by which they lost to Maharashtra. Mukta Magre and Maya Sonawane were the other bowlers who took 2 wickets each.
Maharashtra: 81 all-out in 19 overs
Jharkhand: 79/8 in 20 overs
Result: Maharashtra won by 2 runs.
