Sune Luus is one of South Africa’s most experienced all-rounders. She has been playing international cricket for more than ten years and has helped her team with both bat and ball.
Luus started playing cricket when she was four years old. She was very talented from a young age and played in boys’ school teams when she was only seven. At the age of 13, she made her senior debut for Northerns.
She made her international debut for South Africa in 2012 when she was just 16 years old. She started as a leg-spin bowling all-rounder but later became an off-spinner while continuing to improve her batting.
One of the best performances of her career came against Ireland in 2016. In that match, she scored a half-century and took six wickets. She became only the second woman in ODI cricket to score a fifty and take five or more wickets in the same match.
Luus is also the only woman to take two six-wicket hauls in ODI cricket. Over the years, she has become an important player for South Africa and has often helped the team in difficult situations.
In 2023, she led South Africa in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Under her captaincy, South Africa reached the final of the tournament for the first time the same year.

Sune Luus made her T20I debut against Bangladesh on 11 September 2012.
She has played 143 T20I matches and scored 1,855 runs. Her highest score is 81, and she has scored eight half-centuries in the format.
With the ball, she has taken 57 wickets. Her best bowling figures are 5/8, which shows her ability to change matches with her spin bowling.
She has also taken 46 catches in WT20I cricket and is a safe fielder for South Africa.
