Sophie Ecclestone emerged as a prodigious talent in English cricket excelling in cricket from a young age, she received an early cricketing education at Alvanley Cricket Club where her natural talent was evident, Ecclestone’s prowess earned her recognition with some foreseeing her future in the national team. Joining Cheshire women’s county team in 2013 she caught the eye of Lancashire debuting for them in 2015, at just 16 her rapid rise continued as she was fast-tracked into England’s academy squad, a standout moment came during England’s tour to Sri Lanka with the academy where despite homesickness she showcased her skills claiming 16 wickets in a tri-series.
Her international debut came in July 2016 during Pakistan’s tour of England, her remarkable control made her a valuable asset across all formats. Ecclestone’s prowess in t20 cricket earned her a spot in England’s squad for the ICC Women’s World Twenty 20 in 2018.
Ecclestone’s talent was duly recognized when the ECB awarded her a full central contract, In February 2019 she continued to shine becoming the youngest woman to claim 50 wickets in WT20I cricket during the 2020 ICC Women’s t20 World Cup, her stellar performance in the tournament elevated her to the top of the WT20I bowler rankings, adding up in a total of 76 games played has taken 109 wickets at an average of 15.03 at an impressive average of 5.86.
Her remarkable journey continued as she was named in England’s squad for the cricket tournament at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Ecclestone’s rise to prominence underscores her status as one of the premier bowlers in women’s cricket with her exceptional skill and dedication making her a vital asset for England.
In 2023 she bagged a deal with UP Warriorz in the WPL 2023 and performed very well bagging 16 wickets in 9 games averaging 14.68, an economy of 6.61, and some handy runs with the bat lower the order.
