The 2022 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier will be played from September 18 to September 25 in Abu Dhabi. A total of eight teams will feature in the competition. Out of the eight teams, namely Bangladesh, Ireland, Papua New Guinea, Scotland, Thailand, UAE, USA, and Zimbabwe, only the top two will qualify for the 2023 ICC Women’s World T20 World Cup in South Africa.

The eight teams are divided into Group A (USA, Ireland, Scotland, Bangladesh) and Group B (Thailand, Zimbabwe, UAE, Papua New Guinea). A total of 20 matches will be played in the tournament.

The first 2022 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier match will be played between Thailand and UAE on September 18 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The match will begin at 4.30 PM IST.

Players to watch

Chanida Sutthiruang:

She is a talented all-rounder from Thailand. She is a right-handed batter and a right-arm medium-pace bowler. She has featured in 45 T20Is, scored 434 runs in 35 innings, including the best of 46 not out, and picked 45 wickets in 40 innings, including one four-wicket haul and one five-wicket haul.

Natthakan Chantham:

She is a right-handed opening batter of Thailand. In her 43 T20Is, she has muscled 901 runs, including four half-centuries. she has a healthy average of 27 and a decent strike rate of 91. She will be required to give a steady start to Thailand with the bat and set a platform for the batters to follow.

Esha Oza: 

She is a batting all-rounder from UAE. She is a right-handed opening batter and a right-arm off-spinner. She has played 36 T20Is and registered 1029 runs, including four half-centuries and a couple of centuries. She holds the record for most runs (158 not out) in any batting position in women’s T20Is. With the ball, the wily spinner has 22 wickets in 21 innings, including the best of 0/3.

Chaya Mughal: 

The captain of UAE is a right-handed middle-order batter and a right-arm medium-pace bowler. She has 341 runs with the bat and 28 wickets with the ball in her 38 T20I outings. Her highest score is 36, and her best bowling figures are 4/3. She is a good all-rounder and has been a great captain.

Pitch

This will be the first women’s T20I to be played at this venue. Historically the wicket has looked good for batting. In men’s T20Is, the highest total achieved here is 225, and the lowest total scored here is 66. Expect a high-scoring contest.

There will be plenty of sunshine. The highest temperature attained during the day will be 38 degrees Celsius. There will be no cloud cover and no chance of rain. The wind will blow from the west.
