As the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup prepares to crown a new champion, anticipation builds for the final scheduled on October 20, 2024, at 7:30 PM IST at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The match officials for this highly anticipated showdown have also been announced.
In a stunning performance at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the South African women’s team, captained by Laura Wolvaardt, eliminated the defending champions Australia, led by stand-in skipper Tahlia McGrath, with an impressive 8-wicket victory in the first semi-final. In the second semi-final, the White Ferns, under the leadership of Sophie Devine, triumphed over the West Indies by 8 runs, securing their long-awaited spot in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final for the third time, following their appearances in 2009 and 2010.
A panel of 13 match officials was selected for this ninth edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, comprising 10 umpires and three match referees appointed as the ICC Match Officials.
Notably, Nimali Perera and Claire Polosak will officiate their first ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final. Anna Harris will serve as the third umpire, while Jacqueline Williams will take on the role of fourth umpire. GS Lakshmi has been designated as the match referee for the final in Dubai.
Claire Polosak, one of the most experienced officials, officiated the semi-final between the West Indies and New Zealand in Sharjah earlier in the tournament. With four previous Women’s T20 World Cup tournaments under her belt, this match will mark her 64th career Women’s T20 International, and it’s her first opportunity to oversee an ICC World Cup final.
Jacqueline Williams will make her fourth appearance at the event, having previously officiated the final between Australia and South Africa in the last edition. Nimali Perera also stood in the semi-final between Australia and South Africa earlier in the tournament and officiated last year’s semi-final between Australia and India.
