Tazmin Brits and Marizanne Kapp boost South Africa’s Semi-Final hopes beating Bangladesh by 7 Wickets

South Africa led by skipper Laura Wolvaardt was up against Bangladesh led by skipper Nigar Sultana Joty in the 16th match of the tournament at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana Joty won the toss and opted to bat first.

Bangladesh got off to a poor start as they lost the wicket of Dilara Akter in the 2nd ball of the innings, with Marizanne Kapp providing the first breakthrough for South Africa. Sobhana Mostary joined Shathi Rani at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 36-run partnership for the 2nd wicket. Annerie Dercksen picked up the wicket of Shathi Rani to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side. Skipper Nigar Sultana Joty joined Sobhana Mostary at the crease and the duo stitched another crucial 45-run partnership for the 3rd wicket to take their side closer to the 100-run mark, before Nonkululeko Mlaba cleaned up Mostary to provide the 3rd breakthrough for South Africa.

Bangladesh eventually ended up with a total of 106/3 in their quota of 20 overs. Mostary (38 off 43 balls), skipper Nigar Sultana Joty (32* off 38 balls), and Shathi Rani (19 off 30 balls) were the top performers with the bat for Bangladesh. Marizanne Kapp (4-0-10-1), Nonkululeko Mlaba (4-0-11-1), Ayabonga Khaka (4-1-24-0), and Chloe Tryon (3-0-19-0) were the top performers with the ball for South Africa.

Chasing a target of 107, the South African openers Tazmin Brits and skipper Laura Wolvaardt got their side off to a steady start with a 23-run opening partnership. Fahima Khatun picked up the big wicket of the opposition skipper Laura Wolvaardt to provide the first breakthrough for Bangladesh. Anneke Bosch joined Tazmin Brits at the crease and the duo stitched a crucial 53-run partnership for the 2nd wicket to take their side closer to victory.

Fahima Khatun returned and picked up the wicket of Anneke Bosch to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side. Chloe Tryon joined Marizanne Kapp at the crease and the duo took their side over the line with an unbeaten 26-run partnership for the 4th wicket. South Africa sealed the run chase with seven wickets in hand and 16 balls to spare.

Tazmin Brits (42 off 41 balls), Anneke Bosch (25 off 25 balls), Chloe Tryon (14* off 13 balls), and Marizanne Kapp (13* off 13 balls) were the top performers with the bat for South Africa. Fahima Khatun (4-0-19-2), Nahida Akter (4-0-23-0), and Ritu Moni (3-0-23-1) were the top performers with the ball for Bangladesh. Tazmin Brits was awarded the Player of the Match for her calm and composed innings (42 off 41 balls) with the bat for her side.
