Chamari Athapaththu Completes 250 International caps for Sri Lanka

The Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu made her international debut on 15th June 2009 in a Twenty20 International (T20I) against India at Taunton. Over the years, she has developed into one of the best players in the women’s circuit not just for her country but in the global landscape. She has amassed 3,371 runs at a strike rate of 110.01 and an average of 24.97 in 141 innings for her side so far.

Her tally of runs in the format includes 12 half-centuries and as many as three centuries for her side so far. Her best performance with the bat for her side in the format came on 22nd July 2024 against Malaysia in Dambulla. She scored an unbeaten 119* at a sensational strike rate of 172.46.

Apart from her exploits with the bat, she has also picked up 61 wickets at an average of 25.24 and an economy of 6.62 in 85 innings with the ball for her side. Her best performance with the ball in the format for her side came on 24th June 2024 against the West Indies at the Hambantota, when she returned with match figures of 4-0-29-4 and was also awarded the player of the match for her match-winning spell.

Chamari made her ODI debut on 18th April 2010 against the West Indies at the Basseterre, St Kitts. In this format, she has racked up 3,713 runs at a strike rate of 75.68 and an impressive average of 36.40 in 107 innings. Her tally of runs includes 17 half-centuries and as many as 9 centuries. Her best performance with the bat came on 17th April 2024 against South Africa when she scored an unbeaten 195* at an impressive strike rate of 140.28. She was also awarded the Player of the Match for her brilliant match-winning innings with the bat.

Apart from her exploits with the bat, she has also picked up 37 wickets at an average of 42.81 and an economy of 5.39 in 57 innings. Her best performance with the ball in the format came on 20th August 2024 against Ireland in Belfast. She returned with match figures (8.3-0-15-3) in her spell.

She completed her 250th International appearance for Sri Lanka when her side was up against New Zealand led by skipper Sophie Devine in the 15th match of the tournament at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on 12th October 2024. It is also the last game of their campaign in the ongoing 9th edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
