New Zealand opened their 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup with a strong 58-run win over India but were outplayed by Australia, losing by 60 runs. Despite a good bowling effort where Amelia Kerr took 4/26, and Rosemary Mair (2/22) and Brooke Halliday (2/16) chipped in to restrict Australia to 148/8. In reply, New Zealand lost an early wicket, but managed a brief recovery before New Zealand’s batting collapsed, falling from 54/2 to 88 all out, losing 8 for 34 runs.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, lost to Pakistan by 31 runs and were beaten by Australia by 6 wickets early in their campaign. In their recent outing against India, their bowling failed to contain the Indian batters, conceding 172 runs while only taking two wickets. Their chase was similarly poor, as they lost early wickets and couldn’t recover, eventually being bowled out for 90.
Head-to-head in T20Is, New Zealand has a dominant record over Sri Lanka, winning 12 out of 13 matches. Sri Lanka’s only win came in their recent bilateral series, where New Zealand still managed to secure the series win.
