Gujarat Giants notched up a crucial win against Delhi Capitals in a high-octane encounter in the Women’s Premier League on its match number 14. After managing to put up a decent score of 147/4 on the board, the Giants bowlers held their nerves to bundle out Delhi Capitals for 136, clinching an 11-run victory.

The Giants had been struggling with their batting performances in their last few matches but came out all guns blazing against Delhi. Laura Wolvaardt and Ashleigh Gardner played crucial knocks to propel the team to a fighting total. Wolvaardt played a steady inning of 57 runs while Gardner provided the impetus with her aggressive unbeaten knock of 51 off 33 balls.

In response, Delhi Capitals started off well, scoring 51 runs in the powerplay However, the Giants bowlers did not let the Capitals take control of the game. Tanuja Kanwer, Sneh Rana, Kim Garth, and Ashleigh Gardner bowled exceptionally well and picked up crucial wickets at regular intervals. Kanwer bowled Shafali Verma with a clever delivery, while Rana dismissed Meg Lanning with a flat one. Gardner chipped in with two wickets and also took two crucial run-outs. The Giant’s collective effort with the ball was the reason why they were able to seal the victory.

The pitch had started showing signs of slowing down in the second half of the league, but the Giants’ bowlers combined to put up an impressive show that helped them to their second win of the season. The victory was especially commendable as the Capitals are a team that bats deep, and a 150 total should not have bothered them.
