On Friday, the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) held a grand launch event in New Delhi for the inaugural season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL). The board announced former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag as the brand ambassador for the inaugural season, unveiled the DPL trophy, introduced franchise owners, and revealed team jerseys. Additionally, they also announced the Women’s DPL squads.
The DPL is set to run from 17th August to 8th September 2024, with all matches taking place at Shri Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The inaugural season of the T20 league will consist of 40 matches, including 33 games in the men’s category and 7 in the women’s.
The DDCA has introduced the DPL as a premier T20 cricket competition. Chaired by league commissioner Shri Bimal Julka, a retired IAS officer, the league aims to showcase the best cricketing talent from Delhi, providing a platform for emerging players to shine and for seasoned professionals to inspire fans.
The women’s team franchise names and owners are as follows:
– South Delhi Superstars – Real Force Resources Pvt Ltd
– Central Delhi Queens – Utech Developers Pvt. Ltd.
– North Delhi Strikers – Gupta Jee Tent Services Pvt. Ltd.
– East Delhi Riders – Areion Finserve Pvt. Ltd.
