Upasana Yadav’s historic unbeaten century headlines North Delhi Strikers’ Inaugural WDPL title triumph

South Delhi Superstars led by skipper Shweta Sehrawat finished 2nd on the points table with four points from three games. Their only defeat in the campaign came in their season opener against the East Delhi Riders (EDR).

North Delhi Strikers (NDS), led by skipper Soni Yadav, on the other hand finished at the top of the points table with four points from three games. Their only defeat came against the South Delhi Superstars. They finished at the top of the points table courtesy of a superior net run rate. As a result of their top two finish, both these sides South Delhi Superstars (SDS) and North Delhi Strikers (NDS) were up against each other in the inaugural final of the Women’s Delhi Premier League (WDPL).

South Delhi Superstars skipper Shweta Sehrawat won the toss and opted to bowl first. After being inserted to bat first, North Delhi Strikers got off to a poor start as they lost the wicket of their opener Mansi Sharma in the 2nd over of the innings. Aarti Kumari provided the first breakthrough for South Delhi Superstars. Monika joined Upasana Yadav at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 42-run partnership for the 2nd wicket to take their side to the 50-run mark.

Sumiti Soni picked up the wicket of Monika (19) to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side. Ayushi Soni joined Upasana Yadav at the crease and the duo stitched a massive 116-run partnership for the 3rd wicket to take their side past the 150-run mark. Aarti Kumari returned and picked up the wicket of Ayushi Soni (31) to provide the 3rd breakthrough for South Delhi Superstars.

North Delhi Strikers ended up with a total of 179/3 in their quota of overs. Upasana Yadav (114* off 67 balls), Ayushi Soni (31 off 34 balls), and Monika (19 off 15 balls) were the top performers with the bat for North Delhi Strikers. Aarti Kumari (4-1-34-2), and Sumiti Soni (3-0-23-1) were the top performers with the ball for South Delhi Superstars.

Chasing a target of 180, South Delhi Superstars openers Chhavi Gupta and skipper Shweta Sehrawat got their side off to a good start with a 32-run opening partnership. Antra Sharma picked up the wicket of Chhavi (13) to provide the first breakthrough for North Delhi Strikers. Skipper Shweta Sehrawat (20) soon followed her back to the pavilion to provide the 2nd breakthrough for North Delhi Strikers.

Riya Soni joined Tanisha Singh at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 38-run partnership for the 3rd wicket to take their side close to the 100-run mark. Riti Tomar picked up the wicket of Riya Soni (23) to provide the 3rd breakthrough for her side. Nidhi Mahto joined Tanisha Singh at the crease and the duo stitched a crucial 60-run partnership for the 4th wicket to take their side closer to the 150-run mark.

Bharti Rawal picked up the wicket of Nidhi Mahto to provide the 4th breakthrough for North Delhi Strikers. South Delhi Superstars were eventually restricted to 169/8 in their quota of overs, falling short of the target by 10 runs. Tanisha Singh (72 off 40 balls) was the top performer with the bat for South Delhi Superstars.

Skipper Soni Yadav (4-0-26-2), Nazma Sultana (3-0-24-2), Bharti Rawal (4-0-39-2), and Antra Sharma (2-0-14-1) were the top performers with the ball for North Delhi Strikers. The Soni Yadav-led side was crowned as the champions of the inaugural edition of the Women’s Delhi Premier League (WDPL). Upasana Yadav’s historic unbeaten century (114* off 67 balls) played a crucial role in helping her side clinch the inaugural title.
