Sune Luus and Lizelle Lee Complete ODI Match in Semi-Final against England

South Africa captain Sune Luus and opener Lizelle Lee reached an important career milestone in the 2022 WC Semi-Final game against England on Thursday, March 31st. The 2 experienced heads completed 100 one-day Internationals for the Proteas.

Lizelle Lee, who’s been South Africa’s premium opener since 2013 has scored 3313 runs in 100 matches at an average of 36.41. She has scored 3 centuries and 23 fifties. Lee has excellent records against Bangladesh, England, and India. She has scored 712 runs in 14 matches against Bangladesh, 585 runs in 19 matches against team India, and 454 runs in 10 matches against England. Lee has an excellent home and away record. She has scored 1097 runs at home and 2216 runs away. All her 3 ODI centuries have been in overseas conditions. Lee had her best ODI calendar year in 2021 as she scored 632 runs in 11 matches. This record helped her win the ICC ODI Player of the Year 2021 Award at the ICC Awards in February 2022.

Lee also kept wickets for South Africa from 2016 to 2018. In 19 matches, she took 14 catches and had 4 stumpings. Apart from keeping, she has taken 37 catches in various fielding positions.

Sune Luus, the South African Captain debuted for the Proteas in 2012. But, she became a permanent player in 2016. Her all-around skills have been exceptional as she has scored runs at the no.4 position and has been a handy leg spinner.

In 100 games, Sune Luus has scored 1665 runs at an average of 24.13 with 12 fifties. With the ball, she has picked 109 wickets with the best of 6 for 36. Luus who has largely batted down the order has scored 200+ runs against Australia, India New Zealand, and West Indies. She has scored 989 runs and has picked 77 wickets in 60 matches in overseas conditions. At home, Luus has scored 676 runs and has picked 32 wickets in 40 matches.

Sune Luus, who is captaining the South African side in the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup has been outstanding in her leadership. She also has played a key role in batting, scoring 249 runs in 7 matches with 3 fifties. With South Africa making it to the Semi-Finals, Luus will be hoping to perform well against England in the Semis and take her side to the Finals against Australia.
