Getting out hit-wicket is one of the rare forms of dismissals in cricket. With Australia captain getting out hit wicket on Sunday during the third T20I that was played between Australia and India at the Metricon Stadium in Queensland, there have been discussions doing the rounds on this form of dismissal. India’s left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad accounted for Lanning’s wicket.
So far, there have been only seven instances (including Meg Lanning’s wicket) of batters getting out hit-wicket in the history of women’s T20Is.
1. Marizanne Kapp (South Africa)
The South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp (1), who is a right-hand bat and right-arm seamer, was out hit wicket to Pakistan’s leg spinner Bismah Maroof during one of the matches that was played between the two sides as a part of ICC World T20 2014 Qualifier in Colombo on October 3, 2012.
2. Yasmin Daswani (Hong Kong)
Hong Kong’s opening bat, Yasmin Daswani (31), a right-hander, was out hit wicket to Malaysia’s leg spinner Mas Elysa during one of the matches that was played between the two sides as a part of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asian Region Qualifier in Bangkok on February 27, 2019.
3. Kiran Bhatti (Norway)
Norway’s middle-order bat, Kiran Bhatti (8) was out hit wicket to Austria’s right arm seamer Sylvia Kailath during one of the matches that was played between the two sides as a part of Women’s T20I Quadrangular Series in France on August 2, 2019.
4. Triphonia Luka (Malawi)
Malawi’s opening bat, Triphonia Luka (5), a right-hander, was out hit wicket to Mozambique’s right arm off-spinner Paula Mazuze in the first of the seven-match T20I series that was played between the two sides in Malawi on November 6, 2019.
5. Yolanda Thompson (Belize)
Belize’s opening bat, Yolanda Thompson (5), a right-hander, was out hit wicket to Costa Rica’s right arm seamer Amanda Martinez in the third of the six-match T20I series that was played between the two sides in Costa Rica on December 14, 2019.
6. Onneile Keitsemang (Botswana)
Botswana’s tailender, Onneile Keitsemang (0), a right-hander, was out hit wicket to Tanzania’s right arm seamer Sophia Jerome during one of the matches that was played between the two sides as a part of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier in Gaborone on September 16, 2021.
7. Meg Lanning (Australia)
Australia’s captain Meg Lanning (14) was out hit wicket in the third T20I that was played between India and Australia on October 10, 2021 at the Metricon Stadium in Queensland. While trying to cut one off the back, Lanning hit the stumps. Though the ball went for a boundary, she was declared out hit wicket. The bowler was left arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad.
