Watch Highlights: Sri Lanka clinch maiden Women’s Asia Cup Title with historic win over India

The ninth edition of the women’s Asia Cup final was played between hosts Sri Lanka and India. It was India’s ninth consecutive final of the women’s Asia Cup while it was Sri Lanka’s second final in the women’s T20 Asia Cup, and the hosts scripted history, winning their maiden Asia Cup title, chasing down a total of 166.

It was a historic win for the Islanders as they got hands on their first-ever Asia Cup title in nine editions. They won the match in command, by eight wickets with 8 balls to spare. Fans can scroll down below for the highlights of the match.

1) Smriti Mandhana 60 (INDIA)

It was a second consecutive fifty for Smriti Mandhana in the Final of the ninth edition of the women’s Asia Cup. This fifty was crucial from the left-handed batter as it came in the Asia Cup final and against the Islanders. Smriti Mandhana was India’s top scorer with 60 runs off 47 balls, her knock included 10 boundaries. It was also Smriti’s second consecutive fifty in the women’s T20 Asia Cup final having scored one against the same opponent back in 2022 as well.

2) Chamari Athapaththu 1/28 & 61 (Sri Lanka)

The Lankan skipper carried her phenomenal Asia Cup form into the final, playing yet another crucial innings for her side. Chasing a total of 166 was never going to be easy for Sri Lanka but it was Athapaththu’s innings that helped the Lankan side to a historic victory over India to clinch their maiden Asia Cup title. She smashed nine boundaries & two sixes in her 61-run knock before being dismissed in the twelfth over. Chamari Athapaththu for her overall 304 runs & 3 wickets was awarded the Player of the Tournament.

3) Harshita Samarawickrama 69* (Sri Lanka)

It was the first fifty for the Harshita Samarawickrama in this edition of the women’s Asia Cup and the left-handed batter chose an ideal occasion for it, the Final. She came into bat in the second over and was involved in an 87-run stand for the second wicket with the Lankan skipper. Initially, the left-handed batter played the role of second fiddle but post the wicket of Athapaththu, she accelerated gears building an unbeaten 73-run stand with Kavisha Dilahri. Harshita smashed six boundaries & two sixes in her unbeaten knock of 69 off 51 balls. Following her splendid knock, she received the player of the match.

4) Kavisha Dilahri 30* & 2/36 (Sri Lanka)

It was Kavisha’s all-round contribution that helped her side to grab their maiden Asia Cup title. Earlier with the ball, she scalped two crucial wickets with the first one coming in the form of Shafali Verma to break the opening stand of 44 & later on dismissed India’s top scorer of the innings for 60. Later on, with the bat, it was Kavisha’s partnership alongside Harshita Samarawickrama that sealed the win for Sri Lanka. Kavisha played a vital cameo of unbeaten 30 off 16 balls smashing one boundary & two sixes.
