Sri Lanka clinched their maiden Asia Cup T20I title in the ninth edition of the Women’s Asia Cup, held from July 19 to July 28, 2024, in Sri Lanka, featuring eight teams competing for the title. In the final, India won the toss and opted to bat first, starting strongly with 44 runs without loss in the powerplay. They ended their innings at 165/6, with Smriti Mandhana top-scoring with 60 off 47 balls. Kavisha Dilhari was effective for Sri Lanka, claiming 2 wickets. In response, Sri Lanka chased down the target with ease, reaching 166/2 in 18.3 overs. Harshitha Samarawickrama was outstanding, scoring an unbeaten 69 off 51 balls, supported by Chamari Athapaththu’s 61 off 43 balls and Kavisha Dilhari’s quick 30* off 16 balls. Sri Lanka won by 8 wickets, with Harshitha Samarawickrama named Player of the Match, and secured their first-ever Women’s Asia Cup title. Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu for her overall contribution of 304 runs & 3 wickets was awarded the Player of the Tournament.
