Tazmin Brits’ path to cricket is unlike any other. A javelin prodigy, she even claimed gold at the 2007 World Youth Championships. However, a car accident forced her to switch gears. Cricket emerged as her new passion, and her talent blossomed rapidly. In 2018, she received her first call-up to the South African team, captaining the Emerging Players before her WT20I debut.
Brits’ dedication shone through. She was selected for the Powerade Academy and the inaugural Women’s T20 Super League in South Africa. Her efforts were recognized in 2020 with the CSA Women’s Provincial Cricketer of the Year award. The same year, she was included in the South Africa squad touring England, solidifying her national team aspirations.
Finally, in January 2021, her hard work turned into a WODI debut for South Africa. Her consistent performances continued, earning her a spot in the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup. A defining moment arrived in May 2022 when Cricket South Africa awarded her a central contract, a testament to her growing stature.
The accolades did not stop there. Brits was selected for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, showcasing her skills on a global stage. Her cricketing journey continues to evolve. In June 2023, she signed with the South East Stars in England, seeking valuable experience against top-flight competition.
