The Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) will return for its fifth season with several well-known international players joining the four teams. Meg Lanning, Suzie Bates, Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp are among the biggest names confirmed for the 2026 season. The tournament will also have a new team, Jamaica Empress, taking the total number of teams to four. The new franchise has already built an interesting squad by signing five overseas players from five different countries. Their arrival gives the competition a fresh feel and brings more international experience to the league.
Jamaica Empress have made former Australia captain Meg Lanning their biggest signing for their first WCPL season. Lanning will make her tournament debut at the age of 34 and will be joined by Amy Hunter, Nonkululeko Mlaba, Syeda Aroob Shah and Rosemary Mair. Four of the five players will be playing in the WCPL for the first time. Hunter is the only exception, having already played for Guyana Amazon Warriors last year. The new franchise has therefore brought together players from Australia, Ireland, South Africa, Pakistan and New Zealand.
Marizanne Kapp will also begin her WCPL journey this season after signing for Trinbago Knight Riders. The South African allrounder is set to make her debut at 36 and will add plenty of experience to the TKR side. She will play alongside Australians Laura Harris and Madeline Penna, as well as Indian players Shikha Pandey and Yastika Bhatia. Pandey has already represented TKR in the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Bhatia, Harris and Penna will now get the chance to make their mark with the franchise in the upcoming campaign.
India will have four players in the competition this year, with Shikha Pandey, Kiran Navgire, Yastika Bhatia and Pooja Vastrakar all confirmed. Pandey will continue with Trinbago Knight Riders, while Bhatia will join her at the same team. Navgire and Vastrakar will represent Barbados Tridents. Apart from Pandey, the other three Indian players will be making their WCPL debuts. Vastrakar’s return will be especially important because she has not played an official T20 match since October 2024, although she recently appeared in the Madhya Pradesh T20 League.
South Africa will have a strong group of players in the tournament. Chloe Tryon, Tazmin Brits and Nadine de Klerk will play for Guyana Amazon Warriors, while Nonkululeko Mlaba will represent Jamaica Empress. Shabnim Ismail will also return to Amazon Warriors. Australia’s 38-year-old allrounder Erin Burns will join the Guyana side, adding more experience to their overseas group. New Zealand will have Maddy Green and Rosemary Mair in the competition, while Ireland’s Amy Hunter will also feature. These players give the four teams a good mix of batting, bowling and all-round skills.
Pakistan have one confirmed player so far, with 22-year-old legspinner Syeda Aroob Shah joining Jamaica Empress. She will make her WCPL debut with the new franchise. Defending champions Barbados Tridents have signed four overseas players, while Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jamaica Empress and Trinbago Knight Riders have five each. Barbados have selected two New Zealanders and two Indians. Guyana have four South Africans and Erin Burns, while Empress have players from five different countries. TKR have two Australians, one South African and two Indians.

The 2026 season will bring both familiar faces and new players to the WCPL. Lanning and Kapp will make their first appearances, while Ismail, Burns and Tryon return to Guyana Amazon Warriors after missing the 2025 season. Players such as Shah, Vastrakar, Bhatia and Navgire will also get their first chance in the league. With Jamaica Empress joining the competition and major international names spread across all four teams, the fifth WCPL season has a strong line-up and should offer plenty of competition for the title.
