Sri Lanka’s Under-19 women’s team will arrive in India later this month for a six-match white-ball series featuring three T20s and three One-Day matches. The T20 leg will be played in Chennai from June 22 to 27 before the action shifts to Puducherry for the 50-over matches between June 30 and July 6.

The squads feature several players who were part of India’s successful age-group setup in recent seasons, including captain Bhavika Ahire, vice-captain Mahak Narwase, opener Ira Jadhav, and all-rounder Ishwari Awasare.

Ahire, one of the standout wicketkeeper-batters in the domestic circuit, has steadily progressed through India’s pathway system and was a member of the squad that helped India maintain its dominance in women’s Under-19 cricket. Her appointment as captain reflects the faith selectors have in her leadership and consistency.

Among the players attracting the most attention is Mumbai batter Ira Jadhav, regarded as one of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket. Earlier in 2025, Jadhav created history by becoming the first Indian cricketer, male or female, to score a triple century in a BCCI-organised limited-overs match. Her unbeaten 346 in the Women’s U-19 One-Day Trophy underlined her immense potential and established her as one of the leading prospects in the country.

The One-Day squad also includes exciting Haryana batter Deeya Yadav, whose rapid rise has made her one of the most talked-about names in youth cricket. The teenager became the youngest player ever picked in a Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction when she was signed by Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2026 season. She later became the youngest player to make a WPL debut, further enhancing her growing reputation.

Deeya earned her opportunity through a series of impressive domestic performances. During the 2025-26 season, she was among the leading performers for Haryana in senior-level cricket, scoring heavily in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy and Inter-Zonal competitions. Her ability to score quickly at the top of the order has drawn comparisons with fellow Haryana star Shafali Verma and marked her out as a player for the future.

The squads also feature several talented all-rounders and bowlers, including Kashvi Kandikuppa, Purva Siwach, Kumari Palak and Anaadi Tagde, giving India a balanced combination across both formats.

The six matches will provide valuable exposure for both sides and serve as a platform for selectors to assess players ahead of future international assignments. With several emerging stars on display, the series is expected to offer a glimpse into the next generation of women’s cricket in South Asia.
