N. Sree Charani’s cricketing path began in Erramalle village of Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh, where she grew up as the youngest in her family with a sporting background that first included badminton and kho-kho. It was her uncle who encouraged her to attend cricket trials, where her brisk, attacking left-arm spin and natural athleticism immediately stood out. From those gully cricket beginnings with a skiddy arm action, she emerged as first woman international cricketer from Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, blending control with pace through the air.
The WPL Spotlight
Her rise gathered in the Andhra domestic system. In March 2025 she claimed a maiden five-wicket haul in the Senior Women’s Multi-Day Challenger Trophy, a performance that underlined her first-class pedigree. Earlier, the December 2024 WPL auction had brought her into the spotlight when Delhi Capitals secured her services for ₹55 lakh. On debut she struck with the prized wicket of Ellyse Perry, and her composed spells in the league showcased her ability to challenge the best with guile and flight.
Sree Charani’s International Career
Charani’s international career broke through in April 2025 with an ODI debut against Sri Lanka. Just two months later she stormed into T20Is against England, producing dream figures of 4/12 on debut—becoming only the second Indian woman to claim a four-wicket haul in her first T20I. With that, she announced herself as one of India’s most exciting spin options in both white-ball formats. From 8 ODIs, she has picked 9 wickets with a best of 2/26.
The 2025 Women’s World Cup will be Charani’s first global tournament. Representing India’s new generation of bowlers, she arrives as a left-arm spinner who brings flight, dip and sharp control in the middle overs—and whose composure under pressure suggests a bowler ready to tilt matches on the biggest stage.
