Lancashire Women’s cricket captain and wicketkeeper-batter Eleanor “Ellie” Threlkeld has committed her future to the club, signing a new contract that keeps her at Old Trafford through the end of the 2028 season.

The announcement comes on the eve of the ECB Women’s One Day Cup 2026, running from April 11 to September 19, as Lancashire enter as defending champions in both the One-Day Cup and Vitality T20 County Cup.
A fruitful outcome of the Lancashire pathway system, Threlkeld burst onto the senior scene at just 14 years old. She’s since made 262 appearances in her career across all formats, becoming an ever-reliant force in the professional era. Renowned for her sharp glovework and reliable middle-order batting, the 27-year-old has captained the side since 2022, leading them to a historic double last summer by adding both the Vitality T20 County Cup and Metro Bank One-Day Cup trophies to her leadership accolades.
Her standout performance in last season’s One-Day Cup underscored her value: 329 runs in 15 matches at an average of 41.12 and a strike rate of 73.43 across 13 innings, including a match-defining 92 in the semi-final against The Blaze. Behind the stumps, she snared 11 catches and effected six stumpings, blending poise with predatory instinct.
Eleanor Threlkeld’s stock continues to rise on the international stage, too, fresh off her first senior England Women’s call-up for an intra-squad T20 series in South Africa. “I’m absolutely delighted to extend my time with Lancashire,” she said after inking the deal. “This Club has played such a big role in my career, and it’s a privilege to lead the team. We’ve built a really strong group with a lot of potential, and I’m excited to see what we can achieve together over the next few years as we head into the 2026 season as defending champions in two competitions.”
Director of Women’s Cricket David Thorley hailed her as the heartbeat of Lancashire’s ambitions. “Ellie is central to everything we are building at Lancashire. She is an outstanding cricketer, but just as importantly, a fantastic leader and role model who drives standards every day. We’re thrilled she has committed her future to the Club through to 2028, and we hope she will play a huge part as we continue to compete for silverware this season and beyond.”
Threlkeld echoed the optimism, adding, “Last season was incredibly special, both personally and as a squad, but this is just the beginning for us. Our aim is to continue pushing forward and challenging across all competitions.” With the One-Day Cup underway, Lancashire fans will relish her leadership as they chase another trophy-laden campaign.
