Belize women’s cricket team makes history by winning first three matches against Costa Rica – Series Summary

The national women’s team of Belize made history by winning its first three international games of cricket. Belize Women have won the first three games played against Costa Rica Women.

The women’s cricket team of Belize is currently on a tour of Costa Rica. They are playing 6 T20Is against the hosts as part of this tour. All the matches are recognized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and supported by ICC and the Belize National Cricket Association (BNCA). The venue for all of the matches is the Los Reyes Polo Club in Guácima.
Belize have won the first three games played in the tour. Belize Women thus have made history. They played their first-ever international match, and have managed to win the first three games of the series as well. Costa Rica won the fourth game whereas Belize won the 5th and 6th T20Is to win the series 5-1. Here’s the series summary –

First T20I

In the first T20 international, Belize Women batted first. It was a reduced game of 17-overs per side. Belize managed to put a total of 128 runs. In the second innings, they restricted Costa Rica to only 65 runs. Wendy Delgado made 14 runs to add to her tally of 2 wickets. Belize had a good day on the field as they won the match by quite a margin of 63 runs. Arden Stephenson of Belize was declared as the Player of the Match for her knock of 54 runs in as many balls.

2nd T20I

In the second game of the day, it was the hosts Costa Rica Women who batted first. They put up a score of 86 runs. Belize had an easy chase as they achieved the target of 87 runs in only 11.3 overs. It was an all-round performance from Kristy Terry. Terry had scored 31 runs off 43 balls and taken one wicket as well. Belize Women won the match by 8 wickets.

3rd T20I

The third game was played on 14th December and saw the visitors again cruising to a victory. Belize made 124 runs in the first innings and restricted Costa Rica to 33. Belize Women won the match by 91 runs.

4th T20I

The 4th WT20I was won by Costa Rica by a margin of 6 runs. Batting first, they put 113 runs on the scoreboard while losing 3 wickets. Sofia Martinez made 20 runs in 24 balls and was the Player of the Match as well. Belize were 107/7 at the end of 20 overs courtesy Marva Anthony who hit 30 in 38 balls. They lost the match by 6 runs.

5th T20I

Belize were back to their winning ways in the 5th T20I. Costa Rica were at 95/9 after first innings. Sofia Martinez added 23 runs facing 30 balls. Belize chased the target in 15.4 overs as Marva Anthony remained unbeaten on 35 off 38. Anthony was the Player of the Match.

6th T20I

Belize Women won the final match of the series. Batting first, Costa Rica bundled out on 110 in 17.3 overs. Wendy Delgado made 39 off 59 balls. Ranisha Rhaburn and Kristy Terry each took 3 wickets for Belize.

Belize chased the target in 19 overs to win the match by 4 wickets. Marva Anthony remained not out on 28 off 22. Ranisha Rhaburn was the Player of the Match.

Series Status: Belize Women have won the 6-match T20I series 5-1 over Costa Rica.
