Summary: 1st T20 – India B outshine India A in the first match of the Women’s Under 23 T20 Challenger Trophy 2019

Women’s Under 23 T20 Challenger Trophy took off in Puducherry on December 11. The first T20 was held between teams India A and India B at the Siechem Stadium.

The Challenger Trophy is a tournament in which 3 teams- India A, India B and India C play against each other. A total of 4 matches are held in this competition.

India B won the toss in the first match of the tournament. They sent India A to bat first.

India A had a rough start as the top 3 batters could only make 9 runs. Shivani Singh and Ramya Doli were dismissed on 2 and 7 while Jhansi Challa didn’t trouble the scoreboard at all. Richa Ghosh then took the innings forward as she made 15 runs in 20 balls. Down the order Monica Patel made 17 runs facing 19 balls while Kshama Singh remained not out on 22(16). India A finished on 80/8. From India B, Minnu Mani took 2 wickets as well as effected 2 run-outs. Simran Dil Bahadur, Anjali Kesavarajugari and Rashi Kanojiya shared 3 wickets amongst each other.

India B had a tricky start as two wickets fell quickly. Shubha Satish faced 25 balls and made 16 runs at the top. Captain Ayushi Soni made 21 runs in 26 balls and remained not out. Simran Dil Bahadur and Prathyoosha Kumar added 13 and 17 runs respectively to the team’s chase. India B chased the target successfully in 19 overs to win the match. From India A, Maya Sonawane took 2 wickets whereas Krutikaben Chaudhari, Kshama Singh, Jhansi Challa, Anjali Singh and Amanjot Kaur scalped one wicket each.

India A: 80/8 in 20 overs

India B: 81/7 in 18.4 overs

Result: India B won by 3 wickets
