From the foothills of Dehradun in Uttarakhand, Sneh Rana’s rise is a story of grit and resilience. Coming from a village with limited avenues for women’s cricket, she worked her way through Uttarakhand, Punjab, and eventually Railways in domestic cricket to keep her dream alive.
Sneh Rana’s International Career
A consistent force in domestic cricket, Rana has been a key performer for Railways and has also featured in franchise cricket with Velocity, Gujarat Giants, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. She made her ODI debut on 19 January 2014 against Sri Lanka and has since played 36 matches, scoring 222 runs with the best of 53* and claiming 48 wickets at 28.33, including the career-best 5 for 43.
Her journey has been punctuated by challenges, including a career-threatening knee injury in 2016. True to the tattoo she carries—“I refuse to sink”—she staged a comeback in 2021 on the England tour, earning a maiden World Cup call-up in 2022. There, she produced a standout performance in her first match against Pakistan with an unbeaten 53 off 48 in a 122-run partnership with Pooja Vastrakar, followed by 2 for 27 to help bowl out the opposition for just 137.
Long Awaited Return to White-Ball Cricket
In 2022, she made her mark with the bat, tallying 121 ODI runs throughout and in contrast, 2025 has been her best year with the ball, with 18 wickets in just 8 matches, headlined by her 5 for 43. After her last ODI in December 2023, she returned strongly in April 2025 during the Sri Lanka Tri-Nation Series, grabbing 15 wickets in 5 games to be named Player of the Series and spearhead India’s title win. She continued her form on the England tour, adding 3 more wickets.
Off the field, Rana is calm and thoughtful, while on it, she is fearless. Open about her struggles with injury and mental health, she often describes patience and persistence as her greatest strengths—qualities that define both her cricket and her life.
