As the world unites together to celebrate the International Women’s Day on March 8, Cricket Scotland has made a significant step towards making the sport inclusive in the country with the unveiling of Women and Girls Action Plan.

This exclusive initiative portrays Cricket Scotland’s dedication to developing enhanced women involvement in cricket. By concentrating on one of its most important strategic objectives, the governing body hopes to encourage more women and girls to get involved in the sport—either as players, coaches, umpires, or administrators.
While undertaking the named objectives, Cricket Scotland reiterates its dedication to smashing barriers and stereotypes and creating cricket as an even more welcoming environment for girls and women. The project is a pioneering measure to drive development in the long term, setting doors open for cricketers of the future while strengthening the sport at all levels.
Nic Wilson, Cricket Scotland Head of Development, said, “I’ve been involved in women’s cricket for a long time, and I’m really excited that this Action Plan is now at the forefront of what we do. The plan brings together everything we’ve learned from consultations across the Scottish game. Our clubs and communities have helped to shape it – now we are ready to deliver it.”
Bayfirth Research CIC is spearheading the project, with partial funding provided by Sporting Heritage through its Sporting Heritage Community Grants Fund. This support is made possible, thanks to contributions from National Lottery players and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The board’s strategic plan is built around a vision to unite people and communities through the game of cricket, fostering inclusivity and engagement across all strands of cricket. At its central core, the body is driven by a strong purpose—to continuously enhance and enjoy Scottish cricket every day.
Through the strategy, Cricket Scotland aims to grow the sport, create opportunities for participation, and strengthen its impact in an ever-evolving landscape.
Trudy Lindblade, Cricket Scotland CEO, said, “This is a milestone moment for women and girls’ cricket across Scotland. It is a direct response to the need for greater equity and opportunity for women and girls and demonstrates our commitment to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment. I’d like to thank all those who contributed to the creation of the plan.
As Cricket Scotland’s first female CEO, I’m really proud of the plan we’ve created, which is driven by our passion for growing the game and shining a light on the incredible and inspiring contributions that women and girls make every day in our sport – whether as player, coaches, officials, administrators or club volunteers.”
Cricket Scotland’s strategic priorities are built upon certain notions, which include inspiring more women to be a part of the professional sphere in cricket, establishing a culture of equality and forging a reliable and efficient governing body for realising long-term deep success.
Cricket Scotland’s 2025 action plan is all about engagement, education, and planning for change in order to bring real impact. By instilling respect, dignity, and equality in the game’s culture, the plan aims to offer a friendly atmosphere to all at all levels of the sport.
