Pakistan Women’s Blind Cricket Team Gears Up for Historic Australia Tour from April 20-26

Blind cricket is a phenomenal adaptation of the sport that allows visually impaired athletes to demonstrate their skills and passion for the game. With its inception in the 1920s, blind cricket has grown into a grand global movement, with international tournaments fostering inclusivity and competition. In a major development, a blind cricket series is about to unfold, shedding light on the dedication of these athletes and the impact of the sport in promoting accessibility in cricket.

The Pakistani women’s blind cricket team is all but set to get their name etched in history as they are set to play a five-match Twenty20 series against their Australian counterparts in April. This milestone series is a significant and massive step towards the development of blind women’s cricket, considering the growing accessibility and visibility of visually impaired sports persons on the biggest stage.

The tournament does not only provide a chance for talented cricketers to showcase their skills but also as an origin of inspiration to aspiring blind cricketers across the globe. Since both sides are expected to engage in a tough and competitive game, the series will be a test of grit, determination, and the ability of sport to unite people, as usual.

Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBCC) Chairman Syed Sultan Shah stated that this historic tour will be the team’s debut on the international stage.

“A 17-member squad will be selected for the series, which will take place from April 20 to 26. The team will depart for Australia on April 17,” he told APP.

A squad of 21 members, including 17 players and four officials, will head to Australia for the series. Ahead of their departure, the national team will participate in a training camp in Lahore from April 6 to 16.

The World Blind Games (Women) 2023 turned out to be a disaster for Australia VI. The Indian team dominated the games against Australia and English in comprehensive fashion. Australia managed a solitary win out of the 5 games they played and finished with 3 points and a shambolic NRR (Net-Run-Rate) of -3.48. C Lewis turned out to be the best performer with the bat and ball.

The Punjab team emerged victorious against the AJK in the final of the 4th Women’s Blind Cricket Championship held in Islamabad. The event, sponsored by the Australian High Commission and Serena Hotel served as a powerful symbol of women empowerment. The Punjab team was chasing a target of 174 runs, and they did with ease in 14.3 overs. Nisha Bux laid the foundation of this brilliant run chase and deservingly won the player of the match award.
