Brisbane Heat and Queensland Fire has reaffirmed its commitment to excellence by extending head coach Mark Sorell’s contract for two more seasons. Sorell, who took on dual responsibilities leading both the Queensland Fire and Brisbane Heat ahead of the 2024-25 season, has been pivotal in guiding both teams to multiple finals this season.

Under his leadership, Brisbane Heat reached the finals of the Women’s Big Bash League and the inaugural T20 Spring Challenge. Meanwhile, the Queensland Fire have secured a spot in the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) 2024-25 final and are set to face the New South Wales Breakers in the upcoming final at Allan Border Field.

Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson praised Sorell’s contributions, saying: “It has been a strong season on and off the field for our women’s program, and Mark’s excellent efforts as head coach have been acknowledged with a new two-year contract.”

Sorell’s coaching career is defined by significant accomplishments, including his tenure as head coach of the Australian women’s team from 2005 to 2007, during which they achieved 17 wins in 21 One Day Internationals. Looking ahead to the WNCL final, Sorell expressed enthusiasm, emphasizing the team’s thorough preparation and competitive mindset throughout the season.

The extension of Sorell’s contract highlights Queensland Cricket’s commitment to fostering a culture of success and growth in women’s cricket, aiming to build on the strong foundation established under his guidance in the coming seasons.
