In the multi-format bilateral series between India and South Africa, hosted by the former from June 16 to July 9, the series commences with the first of three One-Day Internationals at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. This will be followed by a one-off, four-day red-ball Test match and three Twenty20 Internationals, all in Chennai. In the first ODI match of the series, opening batter Smriti Mandhana completed 7000 international runs, becoming the second Indian to achieve this feat and the youngest player globally to do so.

In the first ODI, Smriti Mandhana not only reached the 7000-run mark but also registered her 6th international hundred. While batting at 58 runs, she touched the mark of 7000 runs and finished with an impressive 117 runs off 127 balls, including 12 boundaries and a maximum. This inning also saw her crossing the milestone of 900 international boundaries.
Smriti Mandhana has had astonishing numbers in the One Day format aggregating over 3300 runs 26 half-centuries & six centuries to her name. Smriti Mandhana was also the first Indian batter to score a century against South Africa in Women’s One Day Internationals on February 7, 2018, during the first ODI of India’s tour of South Africa, scoring 135 runs off 129 balls, which stands as her individual high score till date.
Smriti Manhana’s journey in international cricket has been enthralling, with Mandhana widely regarded as one of the best female cricketers to play for India. The left-handed batter made her debut in the T20 format against Bangladesh in 2013. In her debut match, Smriti was India’s highest scorer with 39 off 36 balls, helping her team win by 10 runs. Less than a week later she went on to make her ODI debut against the same opponent. A year later, she made her Test debut against England. Since then, she has been an integral part of the Indian side, becoming only the second Indian woman to cross 7,000 runs after the former captain Mithali Raj.
In 2016, Mandhana scored her first international century for India in an ODI in Australia. She had an outstanding World Cup in 2017, scoring 232 runs and helping India reach the finals before losing to England. She was named the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year in 2018 and the ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year in 2021. In January 2023, she crossed the 6,000 international runs mark, and in less than 18 months, the left-handed batter added over 1,000 more runs to her tally.
