Players to watch out:
Gaby Lewis
The 23-year-old all-rounder, from 41 ODI outings, has amassed 1175 runs at an average of 31.75 and has also been handy with the ball, taking 10 wickets from 17 innings. Gaby was the leading run-scorer for the Scorchers last season and has been in outstanding form in the lead-up to the domestic season, and she can be counted on to replicate her success.
Aimee Maguire
The 17-year-old left-arm off-spinner proved her mettle in the Under-19 World Cup earlier last year and was then fast-tracked into the senior set-up. Aimee, from a couple of ODIs, has bagged as many wickets, maintaining an economy rate of 5.80. She is a very promising talent, and it’ll be worth tracking her progress this domestic season.
Orla Prendergast
The 22-year-old all-rounder, in ODIs, from 20 outings, has accumulated 467 runs and picked up 5 wickets from 10 innings, registering bests of 71 and 2/4. Orla has been in good form with both bat and ball lately and though had a modest start to the ’24 domestic season with a score of 23 and figures of 0/22, she can be relied upon to capitalize on this start.
Claudia Green
The 26-year-old New Zealander, in the ’23-24 home domestic season, scalped 15 wickets from 9 One Day matches, maintaining an economy rate of 4.26, and registered the best of 5/30. Claudia didn’t feature in the team’s season opener, but when available, she certainly can spearhead the bowling unit and also be handy with the bat on occasions.
Pitch:
With an average score in the 190s, the 22 yards at the Oak Hill Cricket Club make up a well-balanced pitch that offers a fair contest between bat and ball. However, bowlers, pacers in particular, have the upper hand on this wicket.
Weather:
Despite cloudy skies, the likelihood of rain is minimal, promising an uninterrupted game. The temperature is forecast to hover around 15°C, with light winds and humidity of 77%.
Fantasy playing XI:
Amy Hunter, Modester Mupachikwa, Gaby Lewis, Sophie MacMahon, Leah Paul, Arlene Kelly, Claudia Green, Orla Prendergast, Cara Murray, Aimee Maguire, Alana Dalzell
