“I back myself as all-rounder”- Deepti Sharma

India Women all-rounder Deepti Sharma, who is making her KSL debut in the upcoming season, says that she backs herself as an all-rounder and is ready for any role assigned to her by the team. Sharma is currently placed second in the ICC Women’s ODI rankings for all-rounders and aims to improve her game ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 world Cup in 2020.

She said, “Batting-wise, I have prepared myself to go [bat] anywhere. If the team wants to use me as a floater or gives me a designated position, I am happy fulfilling any role they assign. The Indian team has entered a stage where each one of us has a lot to prove, and as an all-rounder, I have a lot of work to do in every department because the competition has gone up.”

Talking about her altered batting approach she said, “I tried to adopt a slightly more aggressive approach, because if at any point the team wants me to perform a role in that mould, I should be able to do that.”

Heaping praise on India’s star batter Smriti Mandhana and her successful run in the last season of the league, Sharma feels that Smriti becoming the highest run-getter in the last edition clearly depicts that Indians can not only do well, but are also well capable of excelling at such big platforms.
