Born on July 31, 2002, Shreyanka Patil’s cricketing journey began at a young age when she started playing for the under-16 team of Karnataka. Inspired by watching the Indian Premier League (IPL), she became a devoted fan of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), which further fuelled her passion for the sport. Patil’s dedication and hard work paid off when she was selected to represent the Karnataka state team.

Shreyanka Patil’s talent and potential were evident as she showcased her skills in domestic tournaments. In the Women’s Senior One Day Trophy 2022-23, she finished as the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament, a testament to her bowling prowess. Her consistent performances and ability to contribute with both bat and ball caught the attention of the selectors and paved the way for her entry into the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

In the inaugural edition of the WPL, Shreyanka Patil found herself representing her favourite IPL team, the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The young all-rounder was signed by RCB at her base price of Rs 10 lakh, a significant achievement for someone at such an early stage of their career. Patil’s inclusion in the star-studded RCB line-up was a dream come true for her, and she was determined to make the most out of the opportunities that came her way.

In her debut match against the formidable Mumbai Indians, Shreyanka Patil showcased her batting prowess when Bangalore found itself in a precarious situation after a batting collapse. She played a crucial knock of 23 off just 15 balls, steering Bangalore to a respectable total of 155. Despite her valiant effort, RCB succumbed to a nine-wicket defeat, but Patil’s performance was a silver lining in an otherwise disappointing match.

Shreyanka Patil’s bowling skills were on full display in the next game against the Gujarat Giants. She picked up two wickets in her spell, including the dismissals of Sophia Dunkley, who had recorded the fastest WPL half-century, and Harleen Deol. Patil’s ability to take crucial wickets and contain the opposition’s scoring rate showcased her effectiveness as a bowler.

Shreyanka Patil’s impressive performances in the WPL did not go unnoticed, with international players also lauding her talent. Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry, who plays for RCB, praised Patil’s skills during a press conference, highlighting her young age, batting prowess, and bowling talent. Perry commended Patil as a “real special star for the future” and praised her skill set, which she deemed rare for someone of her age.

Owing to her terrific run at the WPL, Shreyanka was included in India A squad for the inaugural season of the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup. In India’s opening game against Hong Kong, Shreyanka once again proved her mettle as she led India A women’s team to a resounding nine-wicket victory. With outstanding figures of 5/2, she demolished the Hong Kong batting line-up, bowling tight off-breaks that left the opposition struggling to score runs.

Shreyanka’s impressive performance in the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup is just a glimpse of what she has to offer. Her talent, skill, and dedication make her a valuable asset to the Indian women’s cricket team. She will be in action in India A’s remaining matches in the Emerging Asia Cup. She is definitely a player to watch out for and the future of Indian cricket.
