Nahida Khan announced retirement from International Cricket after serving for 14 Years

Nahida Khan, a well-known Pakistani cricketer, has announced her retirement from international cricket, concluding a spectacular 14-year career. On February 7, 2009, she made her One Day International (ODI) debut against Sri Lanka at Bogra, Bangladesh, ushering in a journey that would go on to inspire many and leave a lasting impression on women’s cricket.

Nahida Khan, who was born and raised in Balochistan, was the first Balochistan woman to wear the green jersey of the Pakistani national women’s team. She played in 120 international games over the course of her career, scoring an outstanding 2,014 runs and grabbing one wicket while doing so, displaying her talent and commitment to the game.

Not just a skilled batswoman, Nahida showcased exceptional fielding abilities as well. She boasts the record for the highest number of catches in a single ODI inning, having caught four balls in Pakistan’s 94-run triumph over Sri Lanka in Dambulla in 2018.

 

Nahida represented Pakistan in a number of international competitions, including four T20 World Cups in 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018, and three 50-over World Cups in 2013, 2017, and 2022. She soon established herself as an integral member of the national team thanks to her performances on these international stages, which showed she could compete with the best in the world.

Apart from her on-field achievements, Nahida also ventured into coaching, sharing her experience and knowledge with the next generation of cricketers. Recently, she served as the assistant coach for the Blasters, a team participating in the Pakistan Cup Women’s Cricket Tournament in Karachi. Before this, she worked alongside head coach Taufiq Umar, leading the Amazons side to victory in the Women’s League exhibition matches against Super Women in March.

Reflecting on her retirement, Nahida Khan said: “I am grateful to the unwavering support I received throughout my career. I want to thank my family, teammates, coaches, and the Pakistan Cricket Board for their guidance and belief in my abilities. I also want to thank the passionate fans who supported me throughout my journey, both in Pakistan and across the globe.”
