“I have been insisting on women’s PSL since day one,” says Sana Mira

Just as the support for Women’s IPL continues to rise in India, the Pakistanis are eager to have a women’s edition of their Pakistan Super League. Last November, we heard the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief, Ramiz Raza sharing his suggestion on the same hoping to become the first cricket board in Asia to have such a league for women. Currently, Cricket Australia’s Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and The Hundreds by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) are the only major franchise leagues in women’s cricket.

In regard to PSL, Geo News interacted with former Pakistan’s former captain Sana Mir who emphasized bringing in such leagues commenting that it would help the players prepare themselves beyond their limits and will even enhance their skills and learning.

Mir who is now a cricket commentator said,

“A league like PSL for women will surely help our cricketers, there’s no doubt. If you want them to go beyond their current limits, then a locally sponsored league is inevitable,”

She added that a start with four teams if six teams aren’t feasible right now, four can be done, and gradually the addition can be made. Further suggesting an increase in the number of teams in the domestic tournaments as well which will open the door for some new talents to show their potential.

As per reports, PCB has already started working on their plan to bring in PSL for the U-19 team and women cricketers. On the other hand, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly also shared that the board is planning to commence a full-fledged Women’s IPL very soon.
