Match one of Group A was played between Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat first. In a one sided affair, Zimbabwe batters thrashed inexperienced Mozambique attack all over the park and posted a mammoth total of 198/3 in 20 overs. SM Mayers was the highest scorer for Zimbabwe as she scored 62 in 45 deliveries with 3 fours and a six. Mozambique bowling attack was way below par as they conceded 39 extra runs including 35 wides.
Chasing a huge total, none of the Mozambique batters could reach the double figure score as the entire team was bowled out for just 35 runs in 19.2 overs. As a result of this, Zimbabwe registered a huge 163-run victory and Mayers was adjourned Player of the Match.
Second match of the same group was played between Rwanda and Nigeria. Nigeria elected to field after winning the toss and restricted Rwanda at 102/6 in 20 overs with some tight bowling effort.
Chasing a modest total, Nigeria lost too many wickets in run-outs and could manage only 65 runs before getting bowled out in 16.1 overs, thus handling a comfortable 37-run win to Rwanda.
