Uganda and Namibia kick off Africa region T20 qualifiers with win

Namibia played Kenya in the first match of Group B. Kenya won the toss and elected to field first. Namibia posted 117/6 in their allotted quota of 20 overs which included 20 extra runs.  A van der Merwe and SA Wittman scoring 25 runs each.

In reply, Kenya suffered early blows and went down to 7 wickets for 46 runs in 12 overs. Although they were able to hang down the match till the last ball but could manage only 78 runs and thus Namibia won the match by 39 runs. SA Wittman was awarded the Player of the Match award for making useful contributions with both bat and ball.

Uganda were up against Sierra Leone in the second match of Group B. The former won the toss and elected to bat first. With the help of opener D Busingye’s unbeaten 65 runs in 59 deliveries, Uganda posted a competitive total of 143/2 in 20 overs.

In reply, Sierra Leone’s entire team was bundled out for 53 runs in 17 overs. For Uganda, C Aweka bowled exceptionally well and took four wickets for just six runs in 3.5 overs that she bowled and assisted in a 90-run huge win for her team.
