Pakistan Women started their South Africa tour with a record-breaking win over the hosts. Playing the first ODI, Pakistan won the toss and elected to field first. Fatima Sana removed Proteas opener Lizelle Lee in the very first over. Then, Sana Mir got opener Laura Wolvaardt and skipper Sune Luus out on consecutive deliveries of second over. Although Mir could not claim a hat-trick, but continued to wreak havoc with her off-spin, as Andrie Steyn was dismissed after playing out 15 deliveries for 4. Middle over batters Mignon du Preez (18) and Chloe Tryon (21) were the only players to reach double figures, but neither could kick off to take South Africa to a substantial total and rather got caught in the well knitted spin web of Sana Mir and Nida Dar.
Chasing a below-par target, Pakistan batters reached the target comfortably in 14.4 overs with eight wickets in hand and 212 balls to spare. This was Pakistan’s first-ever win in South Africa, and their biggest victory in terms of balls to spare.
