Australia clinched the T20I series with a 2-1 margin. Australia sealed a comprehensive 8-wicket victory with over 200 balls to spare in the 1st ODI at Brisbane. The second ODI was eventually washed out due to persistent rains.
The Australian skipper Alyssa Healy won the toss and opted to field first in the third ODI. After being inserted to bat first, the West Indies openers got off to a poor start, scoring at less than three runs per over. They lost their opening batter Zaida James for a 15-ball duck to send the visitors West Indies on the back foot early on in a series decider. Kim Garth provided the first breakthrough for Australia.
Wicket-keeper batter Rashada Williams joined skipper Hayley Matthews at the crease and the duo stitched a 19-run partnership for the second wicket before Kim Garth came back for her fourth over in her spell to dismiss the West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews for a 31-ball 23. West Indies kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Since the departure of skipper Hayley Matthews they lost 4 wickets for just 19 runs.
At one stage, West Indies were in deep trouble at 47/6 in 14 overs. Shabika Gajnabi joined wicket-keeper batter Rashada Williams at the crease and the duo stitched a crucial 22-run partnership for the seventh wicket, before the leg-spinner Alana King trapped Shabika Gajnabi on the back foot to get her second wicket of the day. Cherry-Ann Fraser joined Rashada Williams at the crease and the duo stitched a 16-run partnership for the eighth wicket.
West Indies eventually just managed to breach the 100-run mark as they were bundled out for 103 with more than 18 overs to spare. Skipper Hayley Matthews (23 off 17 balls) and wicket-keeper batter Rashada Williams (25 off 71 balls) were the top performers with the bat for West Indies. On the other hand, Alana King (2/20), Kim Garth (2/14), and Annabel Sutherland (3/23) were the top performers with the ball for Australia.
Chasing a target of 104, the Australian openers Phoebe Litchfield and Alyssa Healy got off to a steady start putting together a 57-run partnership before Shamilia Connell dismissed skipper Alyssa Healy for a 27-ball 32. Ellyse Perry joined Phoebe Litchfield at the crease and the duo couldn’t carry on the momentum as they lost the wicket of their opening batter Phoebe Litchfield. Aaliyah Alleyne provided the second breakthrough for the West Indies.
