The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced their squad ahead of the upcoming ICC U19 Women’s World Cup slated to begin on 14th January 2023. UAE booked their place in the U19 World Cup on the back of remarkable performances winning all the games in the Asia Qualifiers played in Malaysia. Theertha Satish, the highest run-getter of the tournament with 175 runs under her belt and Mahika Gaur with 11 wickets sitting second on the list of top wicket takers were incredible and present themselves as stars to watch out for!
Being placed in Group D with the likes of India, South Africa and Scotland; UAE has the chance to present a tough fight to the other teams and end up in the top three on the table to successfully proceed to the ‘Super Six’ round and winners of the same would progress to the coveted semi-finals.
Speaking on the eve of the announcement, Dr Tayeb Kamali, Selection Committee Chairman of Emirates Cricket said “The UAE Women’s team has continued to demonstrate an admirable approach to team cohesiveness where all players complement each other and deliver consistent match-winning performance. They have taken advantage of every opportunity to showcase their positive attitude with increasing confidence. As they now take their well-earned place to compete in the ICC’s inaugural U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, we wish the team a very successful South African tour.”

Najeeb Amar, the Head Coach of the UAE team also echoed a similar sentiment when she reflected on the brilliant year that the young girls had and that they will be a part of history by competing in the inaugural U19 World Cup. She added how the collective reward for the hard yards put in by the players has reaped benefits and that the coaching and the high-performance teams will continue to invest in developing players and approach the games from a winning mindset. She also clearly outlined the goals and said, “Our goal is to compete to the best of our abilities, to push those abilities and finish our Group matches in the top three (and) proceed to the Super Sixes.”
