Australia posted a record total on the board (575/9) before declaring the innings in the 126th over of the innings, with a humongous first innings lead of 499. Annabel Sutherland (210 off 256 balls) smashed her maiden double century becoming the 9th player overall and the 5th Australian to score a double century in a Women’s Test match.
She claimed the record for the fastest double century in a Women’s Test match as she managed to get it in just 248 balls, surpassing the previous best (Karen Rolton 306 balls Vs England 2001) by 58 balls. At the age of 22 years and 126 days, she also became the 2nd youngest player after Mithali Raj (19 years and 254 days) to score a double century in a Women’s Test match. Skipper Alyssa Healy (99 off 124 balls), Beth Mooney (78 off 109 balls), and Ashleigh Gardner (65 off 130 balls) were the top performers with the bat for Australia. Chloe Tryon (21.2-1-81-3), Masabata Klaas (21-4-85-3), and Nadine de Klerk (21-1-96-2) were the top performers with the ball for South Africa.
The home side had the visitors on the mat at (13/3) in the 8th over of the innings after posting the highest-ever team total in the history of a women’s Test match. Delmi Tucker continued with her overnight partner Tazmin Brits. The duo led some recovery with a 96-run partnership for the 4th wicket before Ellyse Perry provided the much-needed breakthrough for Australia by dismissing Tazmin Brits.
Chloe Tryon joined Delmi Tucker at the crease and the duo stitched another 47-run partnership for the 5th wicket. Ashleigh Gardner picked up the wicket of Delmi Tucker to provide the 5th breakthrough for Australia. Nadine de Klerk soon followed her back to the pavilion to provide the 6th breakthrough for Australia. Wicket-keeper batter Sinalo Jafta joined Chloe Tryon at the crease and the duo stitched a 21-run partnership for the 7th wicket before Darcie Brown cleaned up the wicket-keeper batter Sinalo Jafta to provide the 7th breakthrough for her side. South Africa suffered a mini collapse as they lost their next three wickets for just 34 runs as they were bundled out for just 215 in the 98th over of the innings.
Chloe Tryon (64 off 153 balls), Delmi Tucker (64 off 181 balls), and Tazmin Brits (31 off 127 balls) were the top performers with the bat for South Africa. Annabel Sutherland (8-4-11-2), Ashleigh Gardner (14-4-29-2), and Darcie Brown (19-3-47-2) were the top performers with the ball for Australia. Tazmin Brits, Delmi Tucker, and Chloe Tryon displayed admirable fight and resistance to keep the Australian bowlers at bay, but they couldn’t save the Test for the visitors.
